Staff & Volunteers

St German’s Shop and Post Office Staff and volunteers

Staff management and leadership

Since the shop’s inception Sara Dawe as general manager and Sub Post Mistress has overseen the successful development of the business. With the support of up to 40 volunteers the shop and Post Office remain a vital and flexible part of the community. Sara Dawe has the support of the seven-strong (volunteer) committee, who ensure a robust financial and strategic management. The perception of the shop by the wider community is seen as crucial and regular efforts to both maintain and increase its profile are undertaken. There are regular appearances in local publications as well as a Facebook page and occasionally on local television. Training is ongoing to ensure a reliable and consistently high level of service.

Farewell to Assistant Manager

At the end of January, at a volunteers’ evening at the Eliot Arms, Management Committee Chair Pat presented Lisa Roberts with flowers and John Lewis vouchers. She had been assistant manager for over 5 years and was well thought of by Sara, volunteers and customers alike. We wished her well on her new venture in the village.

(there are nearly 40 so we can’t show them all!)

Join Us?

We are particularly looking for volunteers who would be willing to train in the Post Office side of our lovely shop.  No previous experience is necessary as full training will be given.
We are trying to build a pool of Post Office trained volunteers.  Shifts can be regular or irregular as suits the volunteer, and this would help us cover holidays and sickness.
If you think this may be of interest then please pop into the shop and speak to Sara (Manager) or any Post Office volunteer.  Usual shop volunteers are of course welcome at any time.
